Dealing With Postpartum Depression Panic Attacks |
|
One out of every eight women suffers from postpartum depression, and many have panic attacks. Here are some things to try when you think you having a panic attack. Firstly try to distract yourself and remind yourself that your body is only tricking you. Wait before taking any actions, even if you feel like you should. You should feel the fear rise and fall, and when that happens you will better be able to identify and conquer it in the future. Rehearse your panic attacks so that you are more ready for them when they do come. Try identifying what you can do, rather than how you feel, and step outside yourself to give you better grounding. Does Therapy Work For Panic Attacks? |
|
Although there is more and more proof surfacing that panic attacks are a chemical reaction of the brain, many experts are not convinced that it is only a physical problem. Most psychologists think that while a person who suffers from panic attacks might be experiencing a chemical imbalance, they are also likely having emotional issues as well. Therefore, medication alone might not be treating their panic, but only masking the problem. Therapy is one thing many doctors recommend in addition to medication. The patients that would rather not take medication also find it helpful. The trick to making therapy work for your panic attacks is to choose the right therapist. You should "interview" a... |

What Causes Panic Attacks
Author:
Chris Towland
Panic attacks can happen to ordinary people for no reason at all. In fact, they can even occur when a sufferer least expects the symptoms to appear, such as when they are sleeping or even just relaxing at home watching the television or doing simple household chores. Sufferers of panic attacks often describe their attacks as a sudden onset where the heart begins to beat rapidly. They experience shortness of breath and feel flushed and dizzy. Some panic attack sufferers feel as though they think that they are dying during an attack. People who suffer from a sudden onset of panic attacks all ask the same question - what causes panic attacks? The truth is that nobody really knows what causes panic attacks for sure. There can be many factors such as hereditary, stress, underlying illness or even bio-chemical factors that can cause a panic attack. Researchers do know for sure that if you have a family member who suffers from panic attacks then you will have an increased chance of suffering from them too. According to research the body reacts during a panic attack much the same as the body’s natural response to danger, which is called the fight or flight response. The body reacts instinctively as it would in a dangerous situation, although there is no danger. The answer to determining what causes panic attacks is different for each individual. In order to find out why you are suffering, you will need to consider major areas of your life, your overall health and your lifestyle. For example, if you are taking medication, have a family history of panic attacks or if you are or have been under a large amount of stress recently, the answer could lie in your lifestyle. Women are at more risk of suddenly getting panic attack symptoms than men and frequent panic attacks can also be a disorder known as panic disorder. Other reasons for suffering from panic attacks can be more serious. For example, panic attacks have been known to be symptoms of serious disease or illnesses. If you are having panic attacks often or you are constantly worried about having more attacks and avoid places where you have previously suffered panic attacks, you should seek medical attention. By seeing a doctor or health care professional, you may be able to shed some light on what causes panic attacks for you as an individual, as well as rule out underlying health problems. There are several known ways to treat panic attacks, such as medication, relaxation techniques and therapy. Doctors and researchers may not know exactly what causes a panic attack, but there is help available for people suffering from them, including self-help techniques. Don’t ignore this debilitating condition but instead, ensure that you get the help you require and get to the bottom of what causes the panic attacks you suffer. Symptoms, Signs, and How to Stop Panic Attacks |
|
Learning how to stop panic attacks is a priority for the majority of those who have ever experienced them. This is because panic attacks are emotionally, mentally and physically draining. Some have gone so far as to describe panic attacks as emotional nightmares. Panic attacks are episodes of intense fear that begin abruptly for no apparent reason. Physical discomfort like a rapid heart beat, sweating, trembling, hot flashes and trouble swallowing regularly accompany the attacks. Panic attacks usually peak within ten minutes but last 30 minutes. Sometimes panic attacks can last as long as a day. Many feel very tired and worn out after the attack subsides. If panic attacks are not stopped and effectively treated, they can severely restrict a person’s life. Those who experience panic attacks become afraid to do the everyday tasks, like grocery shopping or walking in a park, that many other people do. Some will be so afraid of the panic attack that if they do these things, they’ll only do them with the help of a trusted friend or family member. It’s very important that those who experience panic attacks learn how to stop the panic attacks so that they can live happy, healthy, normal lives. Those who get the proper treatment and stop their panic attacks have a very high chance of living a complication-free life. Studies have shown that on average, 70 to 80 percent of those who learn how to stop their panic attacks lead average lives and are able to resume everyday activities. To stop panic attacks, the person suffering from them should first see a doctor. The doctor will ask the patient a series of questions and give him or her a physical examination to make sure that health conditions are not causing the panic attacks. Then the doctor will likely put the patient on... |
