I understand that you have gone through a lot of programs, medications, therapies to fight your panic disorder which were of little or no help. But the simple mantra is Break the vicious cycle of fear of having another attack or else you will never be able to free from panic and anxiety disorder, no matter what treatment you try. Panic Attacks: A Brief History |
|
It has been over 10 years since I was originally diagnosed with anxiety disorder, and 10 years since my last panic attack. This was a time before there were television and magazine ads touting medications for whatever anxiety disorder one may be suffering from so after 2 years of frequent and varied doctors visits and 3 different misdiagnoses that included a host of medications, was I finally properly diagnosed with acute anxiety disorder, manifesting itself through panic attacks. I did not accept the diagnosis right away. Having never heard of such a thing, I chalked it up to having some rare, undetectable, incurable disease. On with my life, or what was left of it, by this point... |

Panic Attacks: The 'Secret Prison' |
|
A person tries so hard to hide it even from him/herself. Panic attacks come on like a heart attack without a warning. It is a very similar feeling and hard to detect which makes it even scarier. When a person has a panic attack they are frozen in fear. This is not cowardice. Panic attacks become a private hidden secret inner prison that destroys a person’s life and self-esteem. I believe a defective gene causes panic attacks that is inherited, or a chemical imbalance in the brain. Too few people understand panic attacks and anxiety disorders including those who have to live with them. Panic attack disorders turn a person’s life into a hidden secret prison of fear causing anger and a lack... |

Treatment Tips For Panic Attacks
Author:
Keith Baxter
Once you've finally visited your health care provider and you have been diagnosed with panic attacks stemming from a panic disorder, you will be provided with a suggested course of treatment. In order to make sure the treatment has the best chance of succeeding, here are some tips to keep in mind. Participate in Your Treatment Do not sit back and wait for relief to come by itself! You must remain very active and aware of your mind and body's reactions to your treatment. Be ready and willing to ask any and every question and to address every concern you have with your health care provider. Open lines of communication will go a long ways towards increase your treatment's chance of success. Be Patient While many patients respond within weeks or sometimes even days to treatments for panic attacks, no one responds the same. Furthermore, no known treatments for panic work instantly. Be prepared to spend at least a full two months following your initial course of treatment before you start judging its effectiveness. If you still haven't experienced the improvement you were seeking, you can always work with your provider to adjust your treatment plan then. Be Alert To Side Effects If part of your treatment involves medication, you will likely start with a small dosage and work your way up to the level your doctor is recommending. Of course, be sure you know exactly what your dosage is and how often you are to take it. Make certain your doctor explains to you any side effects you might expect. Usually they diminish with time as your tolerance increases, but make sure to let your doctor know if you are uncomfortable. Your doctor may begin lowering your dosage, have you stop taking the medication or suggest trying an alternative. Join A Panic Disorder Support Group These can be a great source of support, relief and information for those who suffer from panic attacks. Usually a group of a dozen or fewer patients will gather weekly to talk about their experiences, their treatments and coping tips. Just keeping these tips in mind and putting them to use during your treatment may help make you feel much better and increase your chances of treatment being effective. About the Author Keith Baxter has worked on alternative treatments to common problems for years. You can find his site at http://www.panicattackresearch.com.

What Is A Panic Attack Symptom? |
|
As a previous sufferer of panic attacks, I know only too well what some of the symptoms are. In my case it was a racing heart, hyperventilating and crying at the same time and a feeling of dread during the attack. Other panic attack symptoms include a tightness in chest and throat leading to shortness of breath, dizziness leading to a feeling of panic, a racing heart combined with tingling sensations, obsessive worries and unwanted thoughts, and a feeling of overwhelming fear that something awful is going to happen (like having a panic attack). When I suffered my first panic attack I was at work. Luckily, no one saw me. I couldn’t believe I was actually having one. I wasn’t a usually nervy or anxious person at this stage. In my case, I was doing a task that I hadn’t done for a while and must have been so worried about it subconsciously that a panic attack occurred. It was quite a scary experience. Although it only lasted for a couple of minutes, it felt like a lifetime. I suffered my last panic attack on a train going home from work. My anxiety about going home on the train triggered this attack. I had the same symptoms as previous attacks, a racing heart, crying and hyperventilating at the same time and a feeling that I was going to die. This attack was more severe than previous attacks and I knew it was time I did something about it. I wanted to be free of panic attacks and anxiety. I never wanted to experience the awfulness of a panic attack again. So I searched for a solution. I searched online and offline for months. And at last I found what I was looking for. I finally got rid of the anxiety that had been dragging me down. I finally broke the fear of suffering another panic attack. I was able to return to my normal every day life that I had... |
